Princes of Amber
This is an adaptation of the character creation rules from Fate Accelerated Edition.
1. Choose a High Concept Aspect eg. Prince of Amber or Lord of Chaos
Amberites will get “Blood of Amber” but will have 1 less Refresh (Refresh determines the number of Fate Points you have at the start of each session). Characters usually get 3 Refresh but “Blood of Amber” takes you down to 2.
Chaosites will get the Stunt “Shapeshifting (Demon Form)” for free
2. Choose a Trouble Aspect eg. Growing a Conscience
3. Choose a Background Aspect eg. Many battles on shadow earth
4. Optionally – Choose another Aspect but then choose a Flaw Aspect to balance it.
5. Decide how to allocate your Approaches, you can have one at +3, two at +2, two at +1 and the last at 0.
6. Pick up to three Stunts. These can be Powers or Items or +2 Bonuses to specific skills.
If you chose to be OF AMBER you got the “Blood of Amber” for the cost of a 1 point reduction to your Refresh. You can choose “Walked the Pattern” giving you Pattern:Shadow Walk)" as one of your 3 stunts. If you don’t pay for “Walked the Pattern” now, you might get the opportunity to do so “for free” during the game, but possibly not for a few sessions and there will be some risk of lingering consequences when you do it.
Similarly, if you are a OF CHAOS, you may choose to have “Walked the Logrus” giving you “Logrus:Tendrils” as one of your 3 stunt choices. If you don’t pay for “Walked the Logrus” now, you might get the opportunity to do so “for free” during the game, but possibly not for a few sessions and there will be some risk of lingering consequences and even madness and death when you try it.
For each un-chosen Stunt, you can add 1 to your Refresh, giving you more Fate Points at the start of each session. So if you have no stunts you will get +3 Refresh.
eg. of three Stunts…
Blood of Amber & Walked the Pattern, gives you the Stunt Pattern:Shadow Walk
Tough (1 additional Stress box – usually start with just 3)
Good Swordsman (+2 when using a Forceful Approach in combat with a sword to Attack and Defend)
As you may have recognised, the example character is Prince Corwin. As he is more experienced than a typical starting character, he has earned a few additional Stunts…
Blood of Amber:Pattern:Hell Ride
Very, Very Tough (1 additional Stress box for each “Very”)
Very Good Swordsman when using a Forceful Approach in combat with a sword +1 for each “Very”
Item:Patternblade called Greyswandir (+1 to any use of Greyswandir)
Corwin will also have gained a few additional points for his Approaches, making him a formidable opponent.
